April Blog: Sushi, Deadlifts, and the Month of Dreams!

What’s New In March + April:

Spring is here! While March and April already feel like they were ages ago, we still want to share a quick update on what we’ve been up to over the last few months! Check it out below!

Karmyn’s Sushi Dream + Manitoba Restaurants and Foodservices Association

“No matter the day, no matter the meal, no matter how nauseous she feels from chemo - she’ll ask for salmon sashimi! So it was an absolute no-brainer choosing a trip to Tokyo, Japan as her Dream!” - Karmyn’s mom, Kimberly

Karmyn is a very special 7 year old girl who has been bravely battling a rare form of cancer since August of 2018. Throughout it all - one of the bright spots has been her love of sushi.

The Manitoba Restaurant and Foodservices Association thought this special sushi dream would be right up their alley - and have been working tirelessly to raise funds and help Karmyn’s dream come true. They have been hosting a number of events - including an upcoming hospitality night at the Winnipeg Blue Bombers home opener!

Deadlifts for Dreams

On March 30th, powerlifters from across Manitoba came together to raise the bar on what’s possible at a deadlifting meet. Deadlifts for Dreams, spearheaded by Dave Beakley, raised nearly $25,000 to make Dream Kid Maya’s Disney dream come true. We were blown away at the energy and excitement around this one of a kind event, and are already excited for next year’s meet! Check out the video above for some highlights from the day.

To all of our lifters, donors, sponsors, and volunteers - thank you. This event would not have been possible without you and it was incredible to watch our community come together to make a dream come true.

Daria’s Dream Trip to Japan

One of our most exciting dreams so far this year has been Daria’s trip to Japan. Daria loves all things to do with the Japanese culture, and it was her #1 dream to experience as much of that as she could on her Dream Trip. But don’t take our word for it - here are some great excerpts of what Daria had to say about her dream come true:

On the fourth day, we went to the oceanarium – Sea Paradise Marine where I had a chance to touch my favourite animals. They were the penguin and beluga. They both are so soft and cute, that I had the biggest smile on my face in the world.

My favourite part was wearing a kimono. The most beautiful piece of cloth I have ever worn. It made me feel like a Japanese princess.

Month of Dreams

Here at The Dream Factory, March is the Month of Dreams - a time where both schools and local businesses come together to raise funds for The Dream Factory in some very special ways.

From bake sales to jeans day, book fairs to samosa sales - we are constantly surprised at the fun and creative ways people in our community come together to bring a dream to life. We are always inspired by the Month of Dreams - and can’t thank our many dedicated supporters enough for the time and effort they put into their campaign.

If you are interested in supporting The Dream Factory through a fundraising event or by participating in the 2019 Month of Dreams, contact our office at (204) 989-4010 - we’d love to chat with you about how you can help!

Thank you for helping make dreams come true!
