Meet Emilee
A superstar dream come true!
Emilee’s life was forever altered on Saturday July 15, 2017, the day she and her family were involved in a serious motor vehicle accident. Emilee was airlifted from the accident to Children’s Hospital to be treated for her injuries.
Emilee miraculously survived the accident, but was left with permanent and profound physical disabilities. Her full-body weakness means that she relies on her family or care attendants for nearly everything.
She lost the ability to walk and now depends on a power wheelchair for mobility. The tracheotomy that helped her breathe in the hospital after the accident has left her voice weak and quiet when she is anything but!
We met with Emilee and her mom earlier this summer, and she was very excited to tell us about her hero, Billie Eilish. Emilee loves Billie because she’s different than any other pop star out there, and for someone who feels different after her accident, Billie and her music make her feel less alone during the tough days.
Emilee discovered Billie’s music during her long stays in the hospital, and it was her absolute dream come true to be able to meet her idol and thank her for all of the support her music has provided during an incredible difficult time in her life.
A One-Of-A-Kind Dream Come True
The Dream Factory’s goal was to provide Emilee and her family with a reprieve from all they have been through over the last two years. We wanted to give them an opportunity to have fun together as a family, and for Emiliee to remember what it feels like to just be a kid - before all of the doctors and appointments.
When we learned that Emilee’s dream was to meet Billie Eilish, we knew it was a tall order that would require help from our friends in the community. Thankfully, the incredible team at 103.1 Virgin Radio was up to the challenge.
Before we knew it, Emilee was in studio with Ace Burpee, Chrissy Troy, and LTI learning that Ace would be taking her and her family to the iHeartRadio music festival in Las Vegas. Not only would Emilee and her family get to enjoy the incredible festival, but they would be participating in a very special meet and greet with Billie Eilish.
What happened next was nothing short of magical. Words don’t quite do the moment justice, but thankfully our new friends at iHeartRadio put together this wonderful video of this dream come true. Check it out below:
It was an emotional moment for Emilee and her family, but one that they will never forget. Simply put, it was a dream come true.
