Our Mission:

At The Dream Factory, our mission is clear: to make dreams come true for kids in Manitoba battling life-threatening illnesses. We exist to be a source of joy, laughter and hope for kids and families in our province going through an incredibly difficult experience.

We’re unique because we’re based in Manitoba – and all of the funds we raise stay in this province to help sick kids in our community and their families.

Everything that we do starts with the belief that sometimes kids deserve to get carried away. For children battling life-threatening illnesses, their dreams are what help lift their spirits and carry them to a place where things aren’t so difficult. That could be a far-off adventure, a meeting with their hero, or simply time spent laughing with their family.

The Dream Factory was built on the values of imagination, hope, and most importantly: fun. The medical experience is one filled with many tough moments, and our hope is that The Dream Factory can be a glimmer of fun during an otherwise tough time. Simply put, we encourage kids to DREAM BIG.

We rely solely on the generous support of people and businesses in our community to continue bringing dreams to life... Since 1983, when we were founded as The Rainbow Society, we’ve helped to create cherished memories for nearly 1,000 families in Manitoba.

Our dream is for a world where there are no sick kids, but until that is possible we work to ensure every sick child in Manitoba has the opportunity to have their dream come true.

Our Impact:

how does it work?

Our mandate simply requires that a Dream Kid be under the age of 18 and able to communicate their dream in some form. We include all immediate family members in the dream and ensure that it's a memorable experience outside of the hospital environment.

In 2023, we met 65 new Dream Families and fulfilled a record number of 45 dreams for Manitoba kids who are battling a life-threatening illness.

Recent dreams have included a trip to Hawaii, joining a practice with the Winnipeg Jets, a personal home gaming arcade, and a trip to swim with the pigs (you read that right!). We’ve also had Dream Kids visit the set of America’s Got Talent, meet pop star Billie Eilish, and learn to become an all-star hockey goaltender.

The average cost of a dream is over $17,500.00 CAD, a cost that continues to increase with rising travel costs, a challenging U.S. dollar, and dreamers that keep getting more creative!

The Dream Factory does not solicit Dream Kids, all families are referred to the organization. Anyone can refer a child including a family member, physician or other member of the medical community, a friend, or even a teacher. The child’s parents/guardians must be aware of the referral.

If you know of a child who may qualify for our program, please fill out the online referral form here.

Beyond Dreams:

Our mission is to make dreams come true - but a big part of that is ensuring that our families feel supported before and after their Dream experience.

Our Beyond Dreams program is our way of reminding Dream Kids and their families that they are an important part of our community - whether their dream was years ago, or still to come. They are what makes The Dream Factory so special!

The program embodies all of the special moments, experiences, and gifts that we try to create outside of the “Big Dream”. Whether it’s sporting events, trips to the zoo, birthday gifts, or special parties, we try to create more memories right here at home. These gestures, often small, are how we are able to support our Dream Families during an otherwise challenging time.

Whether it is by creating a memory or adding a special touch to a dream come true, we would love to have you involved in making Dreams even more special for kids in Manitoba battling life-threatening illnesses.
