Who are you?
My name is Alex Blake and I’m a 17 year old, grade 12 student at Balmoral Hall School.
What is your current role with the organization and how did you get involved get involved with The Dream Factory?
I first met with The Dream Factory in 2012 when I was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a bone cancer. The next year I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia which was a side effect to the chemo I endured from my first cancer. I’ve been cancer free since March of 2013. I wanted to go to Hawaii to relax after treatment and so in 2014 The Dream Factory granted that dream! After that, I knew I wanted to show The Dream Factory that I’m thankful for the trip.
I have been involved with a database project at The Dream Factory but I have also worked on office work that needed to get done!
What is your favourite thing about being involved with The Dream Factory?
I love being able to give back to an organization that has greatly helped my family and will continue to help families and sick kids. Everyone at The Dream Factory is so nice and supportive!
What do you like to do when you are not volunteering your time with The Dream Factory?
I’m usually very busy with school in my free time and studying for my AP classes but I do enjoy golfing, cheering for the Winnipeg Jets, hanging out with my friends and going to the gym.
If you could have a dream come true….what would it be?
I did have a dream with The Dream Factory that came true, which was to go to Maui, Hawaii! However, if there was one other dream I could haveh, it would be to find a cure for childhood cancer.
